Real Titan Overview: MSI GT75 Titan 8RG

Today we chose a real giant for our review! The main character is the MSI GT75 Titan 8RG laptop from MSI producing real “monsters.”

Generally speaking, the MSI GT75 Titan 8RG belongs to the category of laptops very conditionally. This is a stationary solution that is not designed to work on the go. If you still try to take it somewhere, then believe your spine will not thank you.

The powerful modern Coffee Lake Core i9 processor inside this “baby” is just amazing. It is noteworthy that the performance of Coffee Lake processors is 15 percent higher compared to Kaby Lake processors. The main difference between the processor family is an increase to six cores. It is not easy to overclock such a processor, however, Titan successfully copes with the task and can perform on a single core with a remarkable speed of 4.8GHz. Six fully unlocked cores and the exclusive Cooler Boost Titan cooling system are a real gift for fans of extreme overclocking. Besides, this laptop is a computer and is not designed to work on the go. Besides, it would be a good solution to add a 4K display to it.

Therefore, if you play games professionally and are looking for a powerful device – Titan is your choice! If you consider pricing, just several words- if your goal is gaming, then this device is worth it.

Design

As you probably already noticed, this laptop is an enormous — real titan. With dimensions of 16.85 x 12.36 x 2.28-inch, its weight is more than 10 pounds!

Also, GT75 is unrealistically loaded with a variety of ports. Most likely you will get tired before you start playing by plugging all this mess in.

On the left side of the laptop case, there are three USB 3.1 and four mini jack type ports. Besides, the grid of the cooling system for pumping hot air is also located right there.

On the right side, there are two more USB 3.1 ports, a slot for memory cards, a hole for the Kensington lock, and another cooling system grid.

At the rear end of the case are an HDMI connector, a Mini-Display Port connector, an RJ-45 connector, a USB 3.1 Also Type-C connector, and a four-pin power connector. Note that the USB 3.1 port is based on the Intel Thunderbolt 3.0 controller. Given the availability of HDMI, Mini-DisplayPort, and USB 3.1 video outputs (Thunderbolt 3.0), three external monitors can be connected to the laptop.

The keyboard has a four-level RGB backlight that can be adjusted using the included Steel Series Engine 3 utility. Both the key bases and the symbols on the keys are highlighted. A wide variety of lighting options are provided. Moreover, you can adjust backlighting options making the keyboard evenly highlighted or turn it off altogether.

The touchpad is located under the keyboard. The pressing is so tight that not everyone will like it. The tracking is accurate and works just fine. In any case, you need to buy a good gaming mouse to get full-fledged impressions

Pre-installed programs

Let’s start with Titan`s software. I found several noteworthy programs. First of all, Steel Series Engine 3. In my opinion, this software is the simplest and intuitive one. The well-thought-out program I never had any special problems with.

Nevertheless, there are plenty of settings. Steel Series is a well-known high-quality utility from a well-known manufacturer of gaming devices, designed to configure these devices. The user can fine-tune a number of keyboards, headphones, controllers, mice parameters, etc.

Another useful thing is the MSI Dragon Center. The program is a control center for a computer or laptop. Is it worthy? For sure. The program displays the characteristics, shows the processor and video card load, and includes many useful tools. Dragon Center allows you to provide better performance or vice versa to reduce its performance if needed.

Not everything is so perfect as it seemed to be. I discovered annoying Norton Antivirus, although every family has a black sheep.

Gaming laptop

Taking into account all the characteristics I was excited to test it and had high expectations. High-speed performance, the latest gaming technology, and the most developed gaming ecosystem—the perfect solution for all fans of computer games! The high-performance graphics card GeForce GTX 1080 allows you to see the full power of this laptop.

The GT75 is so fast and smooth that the first few hours playing I even experienced something like seasickness.

If you assess the value of it only by exterior criteria, then this laptop is a terrible beast that is not always convenient to use. However, the most important thing in this machine is naturally its gaming hardware.
