We conducted a deep test of the new ROG Zephyrus G14, which launched with the epic CPU Ryzen 9 4900HS. And in full confidence, we can assure you this product is worth the money.
In comparison, this laptop, which weighs just 3.5 pounds., can easily rival 10 pound’s “heavyweights” and in no way inferior in any parameters.
The whole thing is a staggeringly fast processor – Ryzen 9 4900HS, which we will discuss in detail below. But in general, the assembly of the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 is made at the highest level – its specifics and distinctive features:
Processor unit: 8-core AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS
Graphics processor: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Max-Q
Random-access store: 16GB DDR4/3200 in dual-channel mode
Solid State Disk: 1TB Intel 660P NVMe SSD
Network: Intel AX600 WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.0
VDU: 14-inch “IPS-like” Full HD (1920×1080) @120Hz
Another distinguishing feature is a large number of dock connectors: on the right side, you can find 2 ports of variety A and one C, and of course Kensington lock-dock. Then, cylindrical plug for 180 W power supply and full-size HDMI 2.0b adaptor. Further one USB C mode dock with DisplayPort upheld and USB PD. The creators embodied the idea of a featherweight version of a laptop with a 100-watt charging USB, for travel comfort.
But let’s not forget that there are omissions in everything and this laptop is no exception. The first omission is Thunderbolt 3 and Gigabit dock connectors. Although we understand that the first dock is difficult to retrieve (given that technology comes from competing Intel), it isn’t considered the second dock is critical. Another clear lapse is the lack of a webcam. In the picture, you can see the space between the mics. The explanation from Asus followed rather strangely – you will use your excellent Webcam to become a Twitch Idol. But the problem with cams is a regular on most laptops for generations, so on the ROG Zephyrus G14, this feature seems more eye-catching due to its deficiency.
Boost opportunities
To disassemble our model, we needed a small cross-blade screwdriver and diligence to remove a million rivets. Well, then you just with the help of something thin, carefully open it at the seam. By the way, there you can find one M.2 PCI dock that is settled with an SSD by Intel 660P and a single DDR4/3200 SO-DIMM.
The great news for you will be that this is a bichannel mode (8 GB on the one hand and 8 on the other integrated into the baseboard), so you will not run into memory transition capacity problems that affect operations.
Keyboard & touchpad
In general, the work of both the keyboard and touchpad is well appreciated. Of course, we can say a few words about very small keys of the cursor, but they are made in the right style. The touchpad is a slender iron sense, but it absolutely does not interfere with the work, and he still supports Microsoft Precision. At the end of the keyboard review, I would like to draw your attention to the cool feature – if you look at the picture, which is a little higher, you will see two small lattices to the right and left of the touchpad. These cuts allow the sound to fly right at you, and not fly to the table for nothing. The sound is very loud and clear, which is not the least bit inferior to laptops of another series.
Quality of manufacture
It looks like an ordinary laptop, but as soon as you cut it and see the ROG Zephyrus G14, you realize that it is a super item. Cover&Keyboard is magnesium made, the bottom is plastic. The computer is very durable, you cannot worry that it will bend.
