If you want to create a new game in a specific, well-developed genre, then you need to come up with something brand-new. If not, why even to waste time?
We started with the same question when we first downloaded Raid: Shadow Legends, the Plarium’s brilliant new gacha RPG.
It put in mind the Age of Magic, an impressive game that launched on Android last year. Though it was rather typical, still, it brought something new visually.
Gamers who are not fond of anime accepted this adult Tolkien-style game with open arms as recently this genre has been full of games with curvy cartoon teens in revealing outfits.
What Raid really is…
We are still trying to figure this Raid out and understand what is so appealing for gamers in it. Google Play is loaded with gacha RPGs. In truth, we are sick of them. In case you don’t know what a gacha RPG is, we are here to help. It is a game where you need to collect different heroes, create a group of your favorite ones, and later fight in the continuous supply of turn-based battles. With the course of the game, you will upgrade them with better equipment and take part in the numerous game modes, such as PvP, raids, and events. Each character gains a star rating, which shows its powers: 1-star, fresh fish or cannon fodder, 5 stars or more (depends on the game), and the strongest in the game.
Is Raid a brand-new or another typical game?
Raid misses the actual gameplay. If you don’t have a lot of time or skills to pass all the levels, Raid has an autoplay option to win the battles. Strangely, but sometimes it is the only way to play in this kind of games. Why? Because the stats in this type of game are more crucial. To upgrade those stats, you will need to spend real money to buy new heroes, equipment, etc. But the main gacha element is that you are not able to buy a preferable hero directly, and that doesn’t make it any better than loot boxes.
All in all, it is said that Raid totally suits this generic description of typical gacha RPG. That says a lot. Eventually, Raid is just another typical game in the gacha RPG genre. It has nothing new or engaging, and it is only a fast buck for Plarium.
